Our Approach
Go Conscious Earth is a global nonprofit focused on conserving Congo Basin Rainforest in the Democratic Republic of Congo. We protect endangered wildlife and support global climate stability by empowering communities around Lake Tumba toward development of forest-friendly, income-generating, sustainable livelihoods.
Strategies
Community Forestry
Local Community Forest Concessions (LCFC’s) offer the unprecedented opportunity for forest dependent people to establish legal protection to manage their own lands according to their traditional customs and lifeways. GCEarth assists communities to establish and manage their LCFC’s. More >
Wildlife Conservation
Lake Tumba is home to many endangered animals, including Bonobos and Forest Elephants, imperiled through habitat destruction. Rainforest conservation is vitally important in halting the alarming rate of species extinctions. More >
Community Education
We help forest dependent communities understand the global importance of their homeland, and its importance to rare and endangered wildlife. In the establishment of community forests, we organize community governance and educate about activities such as sustainable agriculture. More >
Rainforest Protection
Rainforests are vital to the health of our planet. The Congo Basin Rainforest is often called “The Second Lung of Mother Earth”. We work with communities who want to protect their forests around Lake Tumba, a beautiful, life-sustaining lake deep in the heart of the Congo Basin. More >
Climate Change
Besides being home to countless species of plants and wildlife, the whole planet relies on the crucial role the Congo Basin Rainforest plays in storing carbon and removing it from the air, thus stabilizing Earth's climate. More >
Clean Water & Health
Clean water and healthy people are vital to keeping rainforests protected. We are building deep wells, providing fresh, clean water to thousands of people in one of the most remote and impoverished areas on the planet. More >
Sustainable Livelihoods
By partnering with communities Go Conscious Earth puts people at the heart of what we do. As we work to protect forests, wildlife and climate stability, we take care to consider everyone involved, while striving to implement sustainable alternatives to practices that threaten rainforest habitat. Women & Indigenous People
Land and natural resources are better protected and managed when all people’s concerns are addressed and when leadership roles are justly distributed between cultures and genders.More >
